Salespeople Should Inspire, not Sell

Sales is an art. There’s no question about it. I think the first thing for someone to learn his craft must know is: what is the essence of my craft? I’ve ask sales people all the time “What do you do for a living?” and every one of them says “I sell”.

In the reality, you do not sell. You motivate, you inspire people to improve their quality of life, to improve their business, to improve whatever it is that the benefits from your product or service can deliver at a price that they can afford. You are an inspiration, you’re a motivation, and you’re a partner.

That’s an art form. That’s not for every salesperson, although I believe it could be. The ones that really understands the essence of what they do, those are the ones that know the art of sales.
