Guidelines for In-Person Networking

When networking in person there obviously are things to do and things to avoid. Some of the things to do; be authentic, use eye contact, make sure that you’re really valuing the person that you’re talking with.

Things to avoid are don’t be too pushy, don’t be me, me, me, me, me, – think about the “we,” of the situation and what value you bring to the table and also be considerate, have a good talk/listen ratio and really think about when it’s appropriate to make an ask.

What you want to is have strong relationships first before you start asking for favors, before you start asking for deals consider your relationships and recognize that your network is your net worth.
