Performing Artists Support
the Foundation
Many
musicians have offered their talents to entertain EDAF members at volunteer events,
and various fundraisers. Sharing their talent in this unselfish way is particularly
meaningful as it creates a very special level of contact between the participants.
Since 2004, Allison
Crowe has performed many Project Warmth shows in New York City and in her native Canada. Allison performed two shows to directly benefit the EDAF in the summer of 2008.
Eve
Selis
recently established a relationship with the Foundation,
hosting a Project Warmth show in Encinitas, CA in October 2004, and lending
us a beautiful
song of hope, "Do You Know Me", which carries the message that
everyday angels are all around us. As part of the Project Warmth show, Eve
has recruited
many of
her musician
friends – Peggy Lebo, Patti Zlaket and someone who
is no stranger to the EDAf – Mary Dolan.
Mike
Asquino and
Adam Ezra joined Chris
& Meredith Thompson, Pony, The
Scissormen and Similar
Jones in entertaining at the EDAF and New Song Arts Center-sponsored
Coalition for the Arts & Humanity concert at the Boston Hard Rock Cafe in
November 2004.
Jewel
Kilcher was an inspiration for the EveryDay Angels Foundation and the
catalyst that brought it's founding members together. She performed live
at the EDAF Launch at Java Joe's in November of 1997. Jewel
and her mother Lenedra
Carroll founded and run the California non-profit Higher Ground for Humanity,
which is a partner and supporter of our Foundation.
Randi
Driscoll has not only shown support for the EveryDay Angels Foundation,
but has worked closely with the Matthew Shepard Foundation and New Light Media
in her support of anti-hate organizations. We strongly recommend you check out
her benefit single "What Matters".
Southern
California performer Jason
Mraz is carving out his musical nitch, sharing venues with the likes
of Tara MacLean, Paula Cole, and Jewel. Besides being a brilliant musician, Jason
has a terrific sense of humor and a huge heart. He has been a supporter
of the EDAF, donating his talents to launching events such as Project
Warmth.
To
properly enjoy the Joy
Eden Harrison experience, one should order a glass of scotch (even if
you don't drink it!), sit way back in a comfy chair with eyes closed, and imagine
being stashed away in a smokey speakeasy during the prohibition era. Joy graced
the stage at the May 2000
San Diego EDAF Benefit Concert.
Elizabeth
Hummel made herself a promise a while back to believe in magic, fairies,
and free expression instead of record companies, contracts, and the music business.
And she has remained true to that promise by bypassing the Industry and communing
directly with the public. Elizabeth conjured up some magical songs for the crowd
at the EDAF Launch.
After
spending much of her life forcing her passion for music to the back burner, Lisa
Sanders finally gave in and several years ago began to focus her energies
on writing and playing songs. The titles of her two CD releases, "Isn't Life Fine"
and "Life Takes You Flying" are strong indicators of the result of that new dedication.
Lisa, whose songs truly come from the heart and soul, has performed at two Lilith
Fair shows and was awarded Best Accoustic Artist by the San Diego Music Awards
two years running. Lisa sang with Mary Dolan at the EDAF Launch.
Mary
Dolan continues to carry with her the passion of the church choirs that
have been a part of her life since she was a young child. Her voice conducts such
emotion and power as to render the listener speechless while her guitar playing,
which was self-taught, works as a perfect complement, full of expression and energy
in it's own right. If you are lucky enough to catch her live, be sure to talk
with her afterwards...she'll prove to be one of the nicest people you've ever
met! The
music of Carlos Olmeda is a cultural tossed salad. His influences extend
back to his Afro-Latin roots, but include Country & Western music, English and
American Pop, and even some Celtic nuances. His performances, like his personality,
range from romantic and passionate to light and witty. The recent addition of
his brother Noel "Toca" Rivera to Carlos' band has added an extremely well-received
percussion element to the music. Carlos and Toca lent their talents to the Project
Warmth LRC and Carlos performed at the 2000 EDAF Benefit Concert. Whether
he's playing accoustic love songs or rocking out with his band, Gregory Page's
love for his music is consistently apparent. His stint with the Rugburns, fronted
by San Diego favorite Steve Poltz, was a whirlwind time for Page during which
he got to tour and see America, learning a great deal from Poltz along the way.
But as time passed, Gregory realized he had a great yearning to write and play
his own songs. He began a solo career, releasing 2 albums, and currently has his
own band. At the EDAF Launch, Gregory closed the night with a delightfully mellow
set. With
her angelic voice and matching personality, Tara MacLean has been capturing
audiences for over 5 years. Born on a tiny island in Canada to an actress and
Gospel singer/songwriter, MacLean became accustomed to using music and songwriting
as a tool for salvation and self-understanding. Tara and guitarist Bill Bell flew to San Diego to
take part in the EDAF Launch in 1997.
The
SLAM Network (Support for Local Artists and Musicians), based in Connecticut,
creates
a forum for independent musicians to share ideas and network. SLAM founder Mike
Vardal graciously assembled the talents of five New England independent bands
(Janie Superstar, Lorenji Shift, Renata, Pleasurecrush & The Flames) at the
1999 SLAMFEST held at
the Huskey Blues Club in Storrs, CT.
