Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) about
The EveryDay Angels Foundation

What is The EveryDay Angels Foundation (EDAF)?

The EveryDay Angels Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation registered in the state of California. The EDAF's mission is to promote volunteerism and inspire grass-roots community building through education and building the level of awareness in every individual we can reach. The Foundation is managed by an appointed Board of Directors, who volunteer their time and services to the organization.

How did the EDAF originate?

The EDAF was created by individuals on the Jewel Kilcher music mailing list who were interested in affecting positive change in their communities. The term "EveryDay Angels" appears as a lyric from Jewel's song "I'm Sensitive" and she graciously gave permission to the Foundation to use the name.

What does the Foundation actually do?

The Foundation partners with other charities and groups to match volunteer interests with real needs. We are developing an education network, largely through the internet. Our future plans include exploring new ways to bring together these volunteers and volunteer resources to affect real change. Since formation, we have introduced members and "friends" to volunteer opportunities with food banks and environmental cleanup programs that produce immediate, tangible results. Other planned programs include literacy and helping produce reading materials for sight impaired individuals.

I'm outside the United States and interested in your group. What does the EDAF offer?

One of our driving philosophies is that of "Think globally, act locally." The Foundation welcomes friends, sponsors, and partners from across the globe. We feel that as diverse as our cultures and backgrounds may be, our needs and problems are all very similar. Programs the Foundation will support in the U.S. likely have counterparts in most other countries. International members are particularly valuable to the group in extending our programs to areas we might otherwise not be able to reach. In addition, there is the opportunity to meet fellow members in other countries. There are some drawbacks, of course. The Foundation will publish most materials in english only for the forseeable future, and formal events will likely be restricted to stateside locations. Some of these limitations may be removed over time, but some cannot be.

How does the Foundation support itself?

The EveryDay Angels Foundation depends exclusively on public and private grants and donations to support its operations.

How is the Foundation governed?

The EDAF is administered by a Board of Directors and appointed officers. Currently serving as officers for the corporation are Dennis Harris (president), Amy Neufeld (vice president/treasurer) and Rowdy White (secretary). They may be reached via email at EDAF-board@smoe.org

How do I get involved in community volunteerism?

You can get directly involved in your community, and the many fine organizations servicing it, with the assistance of the EveryDay Angels Foundation. The EDAF often sponsors events and makes available information on relevant areas of volunteerism (ie, foodbanks, charities) through the website and a newsletter.

How can I get involved with the EDAF?

There are three different levels of involvement in the EDAF.

    1) FRIEND. A friend of the Foundation is anyone who supports us by joining in at one of our events, whether it be as a volunteer or an attendee.

    2) SPONSOR. Organizations, businesses and private individuals who want to help with monetary donations are greatly appreciated. We strive for hands-on volunteerism, and avoid using membership for fundraising.

    3) PARTNER. Perhaps you have a complementary organization (or a need) that we should explore. Working together is the key to making a difference in the world.

What are the future plans of the EDAF?

The EveryDay Angels Foundation has many possibilities. To keep abreast of our progress and direction, we recommend routinely checking in with our web site. You may also subscribe to our email newsletter. Of course, we encourage face-to-face contact with other members as we work toward our goal of a better world.
